Join us for a panel discussion with data privacy law experts and Nashville tech company owners for a briefing and Q&A session for how Tennessee's proposed data privacy law would impact your business.
The Greater Nashville Technology Council and others have flagged newly proposed legislation at the state level that could cost your business $50,000 - $100,000s annually to comply with. The Tennessee Information Protection Act as currently drafted may have unintended consequences to your business’ bottom line and your relationships with your customers, if the legislature passes them.
Panelists IncludePJ Hoffman - Amazon - Head of Privacy Public Policy
Thomas B. Conner - Multiply, LLC - President and Founder
Tara Aaron-Stelluto, CIPP-US-E, Partner, Barton LLP
Alex Curtis - Greater Nashville Technology Council - Chief Development Officer
About the Legislation
If passed, this data privacy legislation would make Tennessee one of a handful of states to have its own consumer privacy laws. This puts additional burdens and costs in doing business in our state. Consumer data privacy is an important issue that NTC member companies believe needs to be protected, however, as currently drafted, this legislation would consider something as simple as a website visit to be "personal information," which would force a company to jump through costly legal hoops in the name of protecting consumers. While it is critical to consider the needs of consumers, laws need to be balanced with practical, real-world business compliance costs.
If you’re interested in learning more about this legislation and have questions please join us for this closed-door event with experts to help inform you and answer your questions. This is a safe space and no question is "stupid."
